ULEZ Checker and Clean Air Zone Checker
This ULEZ checker covers vans in London, while the clean air zone checker covers vans, HGVs and coaches across other UK schemes and London's separate LEZ. It distinguishes daily charges from Scottish LEZ restrictions and penalties.

How to use: pick your vehicle type, fuel and Euro standard (or use the reg-year guide), set how many days a week you enter a zone, then check one zone or show them all.
Methodology and assumptions
Zone data is embedded as fixed reference values reflecting the schemes in force in July 2026. Charges are daily unless stated. Compliance is assessed on the widely applied minimum standard: diesel vehicles must meet Euro 6 (cars and vans) or Euro VI (HGVs, buses and coaches), and petrol vehicles must meet Euro 4. A compliant vehicle pays nothing in any UK zone.
- CAZ classes: Class A charges buses, coaches, taxis and private-hire vehicles. Class B adds HGVs. Class C adds vans, minibuses and larger vans. Class D adds cars (and, at local discretion, motorcycles). Only Birmingham and Bristol currently charge private cars.
- London ULEZ covers all London boroughs and charges non-compliant cars, vans and minibuses £12.50 per day. London LEZ covers heavier vehicles: non-compliant HGVs, buses and coaches pay £100 per day, rising to £300 for the oldest vehicles that do not meet Euro IV for particulates.
- Scottish LEZs (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen) do not charge a daily fee. Non-compliant vehicles are barred and receive a penalty charge, starting at £60 (halved to £30 if paid promptly) and doubling for repeat breaches up to a capped ceiling.
- Greater Manchester has an investment-led plan and is not charging any vehicles as of mid-2026.
- Weekly cost multiplies the applicable daily charge by your days-per-week figure. Penalty-based Scottish zones are not multiplied, because the penalty is per contravention and escalates.

Only zones we are confident are live are listed; where a scheme's status is unsettled, such as Greater Manchester, that is stated rather than a charge assumed.
Euro standard by registration year (guide only)
| Vehicle and fuel | Compliant standard | Broad registration date |
|---|---|---|
| Diesel car or van | Euro 6 | From around September 2015 |
| Petrol car or van | Euro 4 | From around January 2006 |
| Diesel HGV, bus or coach | Euro VI | From around January 2014 |
Registration dates are a guide only. Some vehicles met a standard before it became mandatory. Always confirm the exact Euro status on the official checker using your registration number.
Frequently asked questions
How do I check if my van or HGV is charged in a clean air zone?
Confirm your Euro standard (diesel needs Euro 6 for vans, Euro VI for HGVs; petrol needs Euro 4), then check each zone on your route. Compliant vehicles pay nothing anywhere. Non-compliant ones face a daily charge in most English CAZ and London, or a penalty in the Scottish zones. This tool shows all of them at once, plus a weekly cost.
What are the CAZ charges for a non-compliant van?
It varies by city. As of July 2026 a non-compliant van pays roughly £8 to £12.50 a day depending on the zone: for example £8 in Birmingham, £9 in Bristol and Bradford, £10 in Sheffield, and £12.50 in London (ULEZ) and Tyneside. Portsmouth does not charge vans.
Which UK cities charge private cars?
Only Birmingham and Bristol charge non-compliant private cars, because they run Class D zones. London's ULEZ also applies to cars. The other English zones (Bradford, Sheffield, Portsmouth, Tyneside) do not charge private cars. The Scottish LEZs restrict cars by penalty rather than a daily charge.
Do the Scottish low emission zones charge a daily fee?
No. Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Aberdeen operate a ban with penalties rather than a daily charge. A non-compliant vehicle entering the zone receives a penalty (from £60, reduced if paid promptly) that doubles for repeat breaches up to a cap. The compliance standard mirrors England: Euro 6 diesel, Euro 4 petrol, Euro VI for heavier diesels.
Is Greater Manchester charging yet?
No. Greater Manchester paused its charging scheme and has an agreed investment-led plan instead. As of mid-2026 no vehicle is charged there. Because the position could change, confirm on gov.uk before planning around it.
How can I avoid clean air zone charges across a fleet?
The reliable route is compliant vehicles: Euro 6 or Euro VI diesel remove the charge everywhere. Where upgrading is not viable, route planning around zones and consolidating loads reduces exposure. Outsourcing to an operator whose fleet is already compliant moves the cost and the compliance burden off your books entirely.
Disclaimer: figures reflect published scheme rules as of July 2026 and are for planning only. Exemptions, discounts, sunset periods and boundary details are not modelled. Verify your specific vehicle and route on the official gov.uk and TfL checkers before travelling or committing to a budget.
Non-compliant fleet? Move the charge off your books.
If clean air zone charges are stacking up across your routes, an operator with a compliant Euro VI fleet removes the cost and the compliance risk in one move. Brief CTS on what you need moving and we place your requirement before vetted UK operators whose vehicles already meet these standards. Free, no obligation.
